Un grupo de pasajeros internacionales en ruta de Los Ángeles a Shanghai se ven obligados a realizar un aterrizaje de emergencia en aguas infestadas de tiburones. Ahora deben superar el frenesí de los tiburones merodeantes.
Apparently to make a 90s movie you just need Renny Harlin and 47 producers.
Like all great films, Renny Harlin’s solidly enjoyable “Deep Water” is about an airplane that crashes right into a big pile of sharks. And let me tell you, those sharks are fucking hungry. You’d think the sound of a 747 (or whatever) splitting open above their favorite dinner spot might scare these makos away, but these credible-enough CGI predators quite literally smell blood in the water, and the wreckage is still flaming when they start chomping on the survivors like god’s perfect jump-scares. Even the tiger sharks that ate so many of Quint’s compatriots from the USS Indianapolis in “Jaws” had the courtesy to wait 30 minutes; in this economy, I guess no one can pass up the chance for…
PSA: Smoking kills. Kind of a whole big mess of a movie but overall I got what I came for (exaggeratedly 1-note characters getting torn to shreds). The sharks are feisty, the plane crash itself is exceptional, and everyone is either dumb or mean or both (shoutout the main asshole dude for being the most hilariously assholiest asshole to ever ass a hole). Renny Harlin likes chaos and hates good pacing - could’ve been worse! Also could’ve been better, but hey, big budget theatrical disaster movie creature features are hard to come by these days as it is. I missed Aaron Eckhart. P.S. Was I the only one who missed multiple important characters dying? Like, did the nerdy guy just…
I salute all the soldiers of cinema who were out tonight seeing a new Renny Harlin joint starring Aaron Eckhart instead of one of the several very, very popular movies playing at the same multiplex.
